433 modem

Flexible for development

433 modem contains a TI CC1111 system-on-chip. It is not only a transceiver, but also an enhanced 8051 micro-controller with USB interface. This enables the user to implement radio waveforms and data processing directly onto chip and keep the need for custom software running on host PC minimal. Existing software, tools and debugging hardware makes device evaluation easy and the user can start to customise and develop the device almost right away.

Small and in-built form factor

433 modem has the standard PCI Express full size mini card form factor. This makes it ideal for implementations where physical space is limited. There is no need for custom interface boards or adapters, as the interface provides easy physical integration to network and automation devices that already contain an existing mPCIe interface. All you need to do is to plug in the modem.

Open by design

The modem uses known and well documented interfaces. CC-Bootloader and test firmware are licensed under GPL.

Communication with the host’s applications is simple, as the data transfer between the modem and host takes place via USB.

433 modem does not need dedicated device drivers, those are already included in major operating systems. Modem firmware can be written in standard C-code, and various open source implementations and firmware design examples already exist.

Serial Programming Interface and general purpose inputs-outputs in debugger connector simplifies and speeds up troubleshooting.

433 modem is an universal programmable radio transceiver for data communication. It can be used to receive data from various sensors and systems that operate on the 433 MHz ISM frequency band. The modem is equipped with a mini PCI Express system interface, therefore it can be installed to standard personal computers or network devices.

The modem has been equipped with an open-source bootloader to allow the user to develop customised firmware. The SoC transceiver and micro-controller provide a well documented and standardised method for modem firmware development. Boot mode selector makes it possible to update firmware via bootloader’s upgrade mode.

Software and available applications

Following third party applications can be used with the 433 modem out of the box.

RfCat is the “Swiss army knife” of sub-GHz radio. The goals of the project are to accelerate security researchers’ work on creating analysis tools for unknown targets, to aid in reverse-engineering of hardware, and to, as the developer puts it, simply offer RF-enthusiasts a project to have fun with.
